House Bill 1209 provides for amending of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to elementary and secondary education. It provides for a local school system to enter into a contract with the State Board of Education for increased flexibility that allows a school system: (1) to remain under current requirements, “status quo”; (2) to provide for the system to become a Charter School system where certain laws can be waived; or, (3) to become an IE2 (Investing in Educational Excellence) system, where other funding options are considered. The bill, in its entirety, is provided on this site for you to read along with additional information on Status Quo, IE2, and Charter School systems. GCSS must submit written notification of intent to the GaDOE no later than June 30, 2015.
As of July 1, 2015, districts that chose the IE2 flexibility option are now known as Strategic Waivers School Systems (SWSS). Ref: House Bill 502
