DAY ONE!, a Greene County School System tradition, where students are greeted on the first day of school by community members, parents, elected officials and mentors, has proven to be successful as the number of volunteers continue to increase each year. DAY ONE! allows the community to come together to welcome students back to school, wish each child success in their studies and give out donated school supplies.
The event is built on an understanding that children learn best from what they see and experience. By coming to the schools, parents and community members show that education is important. When children hear words of personal, one-on-one encouragement, they know someone is interested in them as an individual and cares about their success in school. They learn that education is important.
Any community member who would like to participate in DAY ONE! should contact Robyn Brunson, GCSS Communications Coordinator and DAY ONE! organizer, at (706) 453-7688. The job is easy and delightful!
