August 2012

Greene County High School FFA member An’Rique Mosley wins Washington Leadership Conference Scholarship.  He attended the National FFA Organization's 2012 Washington Leadership Conference representing the Greene County FFA Chapter.

September 2012
The GCBOE recognized, Donna Jones, media specialist at Greensboro Elementary School.  Ms. Jones was selected by the Georgia Association of Instructional Technology and the Georgia Library Media Association as the Library Media Specialist of the Year for the Northeast GA District.

The GC BOE recognized Kati Mize, Greene County High School Business and Computer Education teacher, for having nine students to pass the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exam.

Greene County Schools Superintendent Dr. Barbara Pulliam Davis was honored for her leadership as Chair of the Northeast Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) Board of Control.

Greene County High School senior Hermandez Wynn selected for membership into the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS). The Society recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved academic excellence.

October 2012
GCHS FFA members win top honors at Career Development Events.  Nathan Farmer placed 4th in the Area II FFA Job Interview Career Development Event. Emilie Garcia placed 7th in the Area II FFA Floral Design Career Development Event.

Greene County School System Department of Communications won six awards for exceptional publications and electronic media, and one Best in Category at the 2012
Georgia_School_Public_Relations_Association (GSPRA) annual conference in Macon.  The Department earned two silver awards in the category of Marketing Campaign for its annual Day_One!_Celebration and Greene_Reads program. The district also received a Silver Award of Merit for its web site and three gold awards, one for Newsletters/Newspapers for its e-newsletter, Greene_Notes one for Special Purpose Publication for the district’s Dress_Code_flyer and one for Annual Report for the 2010-2011 Annual Report. The district’s annual report also won the Best in Category award.

November 2012
Ten Union Point Elementary School students have been recognized by the Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP).

Greensboro Elementary School parent, Fannie Miller, was selected to serve on State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge 2013 Parent Advisory Council (PAC).

Twenty-five GCHS students inducted into the National Technical Honor Society.

December 2012
Greene County High School AFJROTC unit, Tiger Group, placed 4th in both the Armed Color Guard division and the Armed Regulation division in the Blue Devil Drill Classic held at Marietta High School. A total of 18 schools competed in the Drill Classic.

January 2013

Members of Greene County High School FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) traveled to Jasper County on Jan. 28 to compete at the Region Leadership Conference. 

List of Conference winners: Hermandez Wynn placed 1st in Database Design & Applications, Tahlia Price placed 1st in Word Processing II and 4th in Public Speaking, Hannah Rhodes placed 2nd in Computer Applications, Katie Bell and Lucy Marshall placed 2nd in Desktop Publishing, Liddy Cronan placed 2nd in Spreadsheet Applications, Courtney Hall, Damion Porter and Hermandez Wynn (team) placed 2nd in Digital Video Presentation, Zakia Hall and Domonique Jones placed 3rd in Entrepreneurship, Maya Leslie placed 3rd in Business Math, Hannah Rhodes and Shaquia Thomas (team) placed 3rd in Business Presentation, Kayla Magee placed 8th in Introduction to Business Communication


February 2013
Union Point STEAM Academy student Breanna Coffman placed 2nd at the Northeast Georgia Regional Science and Engineering Fair and received the Naval Science Award from the Office of Naval Research. Breanna's entry was a mechanical engineering project that used recyclable materials (aluminum cans) to efficiently distribute heat evenly across an area.
